WELKOM OP DE FREETHIEL, GUILLAUME GILLET!
Guillaume Gillet komt met zijn jarenlange ervaring de Beverse rangen versterken. De defensieve middenvelder ontbond onlangs in onderling overleg zijn contract bij Sporting Charleroi. Zo kon hij als vrije speler makkelijker op zoek gaan naar een nieuw team. Waasland-Beveren legt Gillet nu vast tot het einde van dit seizoen.

Guillaume Gillet is natuurlijk geen onbekende in het Belgische voetbal. Hij heeft immers al een indrukwekkende staat van dienst bij verschillende clubs in het binnen- en het buitenland. Zo droeg hij, naast het shirt van Charleroi, ook onder meer dat van Anderlecht, Gent, Eupen, Bastia, Nantes, Olympiakos en Lens. Gillet trad in de afgelopen achttien maanden bij Sporting Charleroi aan in 47 wedstrijden, maar hij is natuurlijk vooral gekend van zijn twee passages bij Anderlecht. Hij trok maar liefst 330 keer het paars-witte shirt aan, scoorde 62 keer en was ook goed voor 40 assists. De statistieken die Guillaume Gillet kan voorleggen zijn stilaan waanzinnig te noemen. In totaal speelde hij sinds 2006 zo’n 338 wedstrijden in de Jupiler Pro League (inclusief play-offs), 23 bekerwedstrijden en kwam hij vier keer in actie in de Supercup. Hij trad in het shirt van Anderlecht en Olympiakos bovendien ook nog aan in heel wat wedstrijden van de Champions league.
Gillet is daarnaast ook een voormalig international. In oktober 2007 werd hij voor het eerst opgeroepen voor de Rode Duivels. Hij kwam 22 keer in actie en wist voor de nationale ploeg één doelpunt te scoren.
Guillaume Gillet heeft meteen een boodschap voor de geel-blauwe fans: “Beste supporters, het is eindelijk officieel: ik ben speler van Waasland-Beveren! Mijn doel is heel duidelijk: de ploeg helpen om de club zo snel mogelijk terug op het hoogste niveau te brengen. We zien elkaar hopelijk snel op de Freethiel, want ik ben er zeker van dat we samen nog veel sterker zijn!”

GUILLAUME GILLET JOINS BEVEREN!
Guillaume Gillet comes to reinforce Waasland-Beveren. The defensive midfielder recently cancelled his contract with Sporting Charleroi by mutual consent. He comes to Beveren as a free agent for the rest of the season.

Guillaume Gillet is of course no stranger to Belgian football. He already has an impressive record at various clubs at home and abroad. Before his time at Charleroi, he captained the squads of Anderlecht and Lens, and also played in Ghent, Eupen, Bastia, Nantes, and Olympiakos. Gillet joined Sporting Charleroi in 47 matches in the past eighteen months, but he is of course mostly known for his two periods in Anderlecht. He wore the mauve shirt no less than 330 times, with some impressive statistics: Gillet scored 62 times and assisted on 40 goals for Anderlecht across Jupiler Pro League, Belgian Cup, Supercup, and Champions League matches.
Gillet’s impressive club performances allowed him in October 2007 to be called up to the Belgian National Team. As a Red Devil, he made 22 appearances and scored one goal.
Guillaume Gillet immediately has a message for the yellow-blue fans: “Dear supporters, it is finally official: I am a player of Waasland-Beveren! My aim is very clear: to help the team get back to the highest level as soon as possible. Hopefully we’ll see each other soon at the Freethiel, because I’m sure that together we are much stronger!”
