WELKOM OP DE FREETHIEL, MANUEL DA COSTA!
Waasland-Beveren haalt Manuel Da Costa (35) voor anderhalf jaar naar de Freethiel. Geel-blauw haalt hiermee, na het aantrekken van Guillaume Gillet afgelopen week, opnieuw een brok ervaring in huis.
De centrale verdediger heeft er al een rijke carrière opzitten en mag gerust een globetrotter genoemd worden. Da Costa debuteerde in 2006 bij het Franse Nancy. Na nog geen half seizoen werd de grote verdediger (1m91) al meteen weggeplukt door het Nederlandse PSV. Voor deze club maakte Da Costa in oktober 2006 op twintigjarige leeftijd zijn debuut in de Champions League. Na dit Nederlandse avontuur verhuisde hij naar Italië waar hij uitkwam voor Fiorentina en Sampdoria. Dit Italiaanse intermezzo was iets minder succesvol en Da Costa maakte de overstap naar de Premier League. Zijn sterke prestaties in deze competitie bleven niet onopgemerkt en hij werd binnengehaald door het Russische Lokomotiv Moskou. Nadat hij eerst nog in Zuid-Europa voor het Portugese Nacional uitkwam, speelde de carrière van Da Costa zich nadien voornamelijk in het Oosten af. Voor het Griekse Olympiacos speelde hij het hoogste aantal wedstrijden in zijn carrière. Hij kwam voor de Grieken maar liefst 66 keer in actie en deed bovendien opnieuw ervaring op in zowel de Champions League als in de Europa League. In Turkije kwam hij tenslotte nog uit voor onder meer Sivasspor, Basaksehir, Trabzonspor en Erzurumspor, de laatste club waarvoor hij tot nu toe in actie kwam.
Manuel Da Costa heeft zowel de Marokkaanse als de Portugese nationaliteit. In de jeugd kwam hij meermaals uit voor de Portugese nationale ploeg, maar op het hoogste niveau koos hij uiteindelijk voor Marokko. Da Costa speelde 31 keer voor de Marokkaanse nationale ploeg en wist hierin één keer te scoren.

Manuel Da Costa comes to reinforce Waasland-Beveren for eighteen months. The central defender comes to Beveren as a free agent.
Da Costa made his debut in 2006 for Nancy. After less than half a season, the tall defender (1m91) moved to Dutch club PSV. For this club, Da Costa made his debut in the Champions League in October 2006 at the age of twenty. After this first adventure, he moved to Italy where he played for Fiorentina and Sampdoria. This Italian intermezzo was less successful and Da Costa made the switch to the Premier League. His strong performances in this league brought him to Lokomotiv Moscow. After playing for the Portuguese side Nacional in Southern Europe, Da Costa’s career was mainly spent in the East. For Greek Olympiacos he played the highest number of matches in his career. He played 66 times for the Greek team and gained experience in the Champions League and the Europa League. In Turkey he played for Sivasspor, Basaksehir, Trabzonspor and Erzurumspor, the last club he played for.
Manuel Da Costa has both Moroccan and Portuguese nationality. As a youngster he played several times for the Portuguese national team, but at the highest level he chose Morocco. Da Costa played 31 times for the Moroccan national team and managed to score once.
