SK Beveren haalt net voor het sluiten van de transfermarkt een laatste versterking binnen. Anthony Limbombe (29) komt over van Almere City FC. De Belgische winger tekent een contract van twee seizoenen op de Freethiel, met een optie op een bijkomend seizoen.
Anthony Limbombe is geboren in Mechelen. Zijn voetbalcarrière startte hij dan ook bij De Kakkers. In 2005 kwam hij op de radar van KRC Genk waar hij vijf jaar later mocht debuteren bij het eerste elftal. Hij was toen amper zestien jaar. In het seizoen 2013-2014 werd hij een halfjaartje uitgeleend aan Lierse SK. Na die uitleenbeurt koos hij voor een avontuur in het Nederlandse NEC Nijmegen. In totaal speelde hij 70 wedstrijden voor NEC, goed voor 23 doelpunten en 18 assists. Indrukwekkende cijfers die ook Club Brugge niet ontgingen. Club betaalde destijds 2,5 miljoen voor de flankaanvaller.
In West-Vlaanderen ontbolsterde hij volledig. In het seizoen 2017-2018 mocht hij de titel én de supercup aan zijn palmares toevoegen. Individueel won hij immers ook de ‘Ebbenhouten Schoen’. Bovendien ontving hij als kers op de taart zijn eerste selectie voor de Belgische nationale ploeg. Hij viel in aan de rust bij de 4-0-overwinning tegen Saoedi-Arabië.
FC Nantes uit de Ligue 1 plukte in augustus 2018 Limbombe weg bij blauw-zwart. Hij speelde 38 wedstrijden voor de Fransen, maakte nadien nog de overstap naar Standard Luik om uiteindelijk in 2022 bij Almere City te tekenen. Limbombe dwong samen met Almere de promotie af naar de Nederlandse hoogste klasse. Hij scoorde acht doelpunten en liet acht keer scoren, vooral z’n twee doelpunten en assist in de promotie play-offs waren van groot belang voor de Nederlanders.

“Anthony is uiteraard gekend, vooral uit zijn periode onder Michel Preud’Homme bij Club Brugge. Hij was zeer beslissend bij blauw-zwart en kon zo een lucratieve transfer versieren naar Nantes. De frivole winger kiest met volle overtuiging voor het SKB-project nadat hij afgelopen jaar een belangrijke rol speelde bij Almere City, waarmee hij promotie naar de Eredivisie afdwong. We hopen dat hij dat kunstje nog eens kan overdoen bij SKB.”
Door het late akkoord op clubniveau, legt Limbombe pas morgen zijn medische tests af. Uiteraard is de transfer afhankelijk van het slagen voor die tests, al worden daar geen moeilijkheden verwacht.
Limbombe zal aantreden met het nummer 14.

ANTHONY LIMBOMBE JOINS BEVEREN!
SK Beveren secures a last-minute reinforcement just before the transfer window closes. Anthony Limbombe (29) is joining from Almere City FC. The Belgian winger has signed a two-year contract at the Freethiel, with an option for an additional season.
Anthony Limbombe was born in Mechelen. Logically, his football career began with De Kakkers. In 2005, he caught the attention of KRC Genk, where he made his first-team debut five years later at the age of sixteen. During the 2013-2014 season, he was loaned to Lierse SK for a brief period before joining NEC Nijmegen in the Netherlands. In total, he played 70 matches for NEC, tallying an impressive record of 23 goals and 18 assists. These remarkable stats didn’t go unnoticed by Club Brugge, who paid 2.5 million for the winger.
He truly blossomed in West Flanders. In the 2017-2018 season, he added the league title and the Super Cup to his list of achievements. He also received the prestigious ‘Ebbenhouten Schoen’ (Ebony Shoe) award for the best African or African-origin player in the Belgian Pro League. Last but not least, he earned his first call-up to the Belgian national team, coming on as a substitute at halftime in the 4-0 victory against Saudi Arabia.
In August 2018, FC Nantes from Ligue 1 transferred him to France. He played 38 games for the club before subsequently joining Standard Liège, and finally, in 2022, signing with Almere City. Limbombe helped Almere secure promotion to the top division in Dutch football. He scored eight goals and provided eight assists, with his two goals and assist in the promotion playoffs being of significant importance to the Dutch team.

The skillful winger has chosen the SKB project with full conviction after playing a crucial role for Almere City last year, helping them achieve promotion to the Eredivisie. We hope he can replicate that success at SKB.”
Due to the late agreement at the club level, Limbombe will undergo his medical tests tomorrow. The transfer is, of course, contingent on passing those tests, although no difficulties are expected.
Limbombe will be wearing number 14.
